Customers say
Customers find this printer to be a good quality black and white model that prints crisply and quickly, with two-sided printing capability. The device is easy to set up and offers good value for money. However, the functionality and wireless connectivity receive mixed feedback – while some say it works well, others report it completely stops working or has difficulty connecting to networks. The LCD display is particularly problematic, with customers finding it hard to read and nearly unreadable in low light conditions.

Setup upper and lower case wifi password
Received this printer 2 days ago. Exactly as expected. A non-nonsense. Simple. Laser black&white only printer. Its all I need and want. Replaces a similar Brother where I gave up after endless issues with the toner replacement watchdog. One problem with the Canon was entering WIFI password with lower and upper case text. Finding the lower case option not intuitive. Not mentioned on documentation. Manufacturers website was a tedious, circular search. CD did not work. Download of printer drivers thru google search worked. Printer works. Setup less than easy! Operates flawlessly so far.

Great little printer, genuine high capacity toner will be more expensive than the unit itself.
Easy setup, direct ethernet connection to my router. Easily print from all my connected wi-fi devices. Prints fast, double sided is convenient. Screen is hard to read unless you get right in front of it, but have only had to look at it a few times.

Shame on Canon
Read the negative reviews – they’re 100% true.SizeThe picture and dimensions look like this is a nice, compact footprint. It doesn’t reveal that it has a paper drawer that remains open as long as you have paper in it. So, the footprint is actually the size of the paper you have in the drawer. And because the drawer is now always open, you’re suseptible to dust. So I load the paper every time I want to print and keep the printer closed.LCD ScreenThe screen is on the front instead of the top. I laid the device on it’s back with the edge off the end of the table for the power cord so I could look down onto the printer in order to read the LCD screen. I also opened the curtains and turned my lights on. Once setup, I laid it flat again. Still, you have to interact with this screen every time you print and for every firemware upgrade.ConnectionYes, the instructions suck and mine was actually missing the CD (empty case). I found the best luck was to connect the printer directly to my wi-fi and then locate the printer on my PC on the same network. My PC is directly hard-wired to my router, so not sure if that’s why my PC found the printer so easily. I didn’t want to connect the printer to my PC via USB since they’re more than 6 feet apart. I don’t use Apple products nor do I print from my Android.PrintingEvery single time you print something, the LCD prompts you to select a print drawer. There is only one print drawer. But, you have to scroll down and press okay on the LCD screen for the one and only print drawer before it will print. If there’s a firmware upgrade available, it won’t print and your job will remain in the queue until you upgrade.Firmware upgradesThis is more often than I’d prefer, about as often as your PC receives updates. I’ve had the printer two months and have had to update the firmware 3 times. This is done through the hard to see LCD screen by scrolling down to Upgrade, pressing OK, and then scrolling one button press at a time to read through the entire agreement (smh). 50-75 or so clicks later, you will be able to proceed.Print qualityI gotta say it prints shockingly fast – like 2 seconds. But that means the quality is going to match. Color docs don’t translate well, but they are crisp and lightning fast and dry. Toner seems to be priced well, so replacements shouldn’t be less than the old inkjet cartridges.NoiseSure, it’s noisy, but I kind of expected that for the price. It sounds cheap.Overall”Buy” if you have lots of patience and just want to print text docs at a lower price point. Otherwise, treat yourself and upgrade. I feel like these printers have been sitting around for decades. They’re only giving Canon a bad reputation.

Good AirPrint printer butā¦
I bought this printer to just use with my iPad wirelessly and it meets that need. I am replacing a HP printer whose ink replacement costs more than this printer! But:- only works on a 2.4 GHz router band, not the newer 5 GHz band. This was not a problem for me as I have a dual band router.- goes to sleep after each usage and will need to be awakened before it becomes available for wireless printing again. You can set up the sleep cycle from 1 to 60 minutes but you cannot keep it awake longer. My printer is in a separate room so I have it connected through a plug that I can turn it on/off remotely whenever I need to use it.- configuration panel is small and is poorly designed. Generally, you only need to use the configuration panel when you first install the printer, especially if you set it up to be used only wirelessly. But it is a slow and frustrating experience. For example, you will need to set up the date and time even though this information is available through your router !Update after having the printer for almost a month: I have added another star. I am very satisfied with the printer. It prints quickly on both sides, and it is economical. I have found most of the printers on the market work only on 2.4G WiFi and I have now found the printer does in fact wake up when an AirPrint job is sent to it after first use on an Apple device. So, 2 of my original criticisms or no longer valid. But the difficulty in using the small LED set up panel and the unfriendly process prevents me from giving a better rating. I do recommend buying the printer because of the price and how well it works with Apple devices.Update2: Have had the printer for about a year and noticed another shortcoming. Using a non Canon replacement ink cartridge makes it shut off its print capability randomly and you have to reset it using the midget control panel. The print quality from the generic cheaper ink cartridge is fine but it takes an extra effort to reset the print function. Back to 3 stars.

Nice printer.
Prints really well. Not the easiest setup but works well after setup.

Photocopier like printing speed… not immediate plug and play, but simply FOLLOW THE PROVIDED INSTRUCTIONS and you’ll have zero issues. It clearly states do not connect by usb before downloading the app/software….pretty simple. We set up software on one computer, then set up the printer following instructions to connect to wifi, and boom. Then added the second computer, and two android phones. The machine works great, very fast, excellent print quality. FAR faster and immediate startup from power on, than any ink cartridge I’ve ever had. No grinding, no head cleaning, just boom. I did not sign onto the toner plan you can opt into, probably a bad idea unless you print a lot. Scanner works great with flatbed and feeding (for legal and odd sizing). After a month, I have zero issues other than my mother in law turning the thing off when I try do anything with it. Great buy for home use. No regrets not getting colour, decided that for the amount of colour I’ve used the last 10 years, if I really need colour I’d usb myself to the copy /photo finish store. You’ll save on ink cartridges for sure.

The printer arrived in perfect condition. Unpacking and setting it up for wireless printing was a breeze. If I recall correctly, the setup included online product registration. The USB cable was missing, but I contacted customer service via live chat and received a price rebateāquick and hassle-free.The machine has been a dream so far: printing in various sizes (including multiple pages per sheet), scanning, and copying have all worked flawlessly.I havenāt tested the fax send or receive functions yet.Overall, I would recommend this machine as an industrious addition to any small business office.

Printer Works great but ink shows less than 20% after 1 ream of paper (500 pages)
