Great quality from Speedball, but not a ready-to-go, all inclusive kit
Alright this is going to be a long one so saddle up cowboys.I have been making prints for about a decade since I learned how to do it in art school. I love printmaking and if you do too, you know Speedball is the Cadillac of home printers. This kit is very good, but is missing a few crucial elements- elements you might not even be aware you are missing if you are new to printing or buying this as a gift for the artist in your life. It is NOT a complete kit as advertised. The good:-the screen: perfect for printing shirts. Good quality and size for this kit or a beginner.-the emulsion/remover: great. No issues whatsoever minus needing a spray bottle which is not included.-the light: actually amazing. I have the bulb Speedball light and it is not as even or exact as this one. Short of investing in a full vacuum exposure table, this is great. The exposure time stated in the guide says 8 minutes at 16 inches away. With some trial and error, I would actually suggest 7 minutes if you are making a detailed print with halftone dots. For simple or large areas 8 minutes is fine.-printable transparency paper: really good. It does not smudge which is nice and my printer had no issues printing on it. The guide says you can double up for a more solid print but I didn’t find this necessary. It only comes with two sheets so I would suggest buying more.Ink: good and standard. The meh:-no stand for the light: I messed up twice trying to make my own stand. You can DIY one or I just wound up holding it. It’s fine but not ideal-the black paper for under your screen: it’s black paper. It doesn’t cover the entire screen. The size is the issue because it’s hard to line up with your printer transparency paper but it’s doable.-the squeegee: not great. It will do. It’s good for spreading the photo emulsion but not great for pulling prints. Invest in the wooden kind with the little rubber lip.The ugly:-glass/plexi: this is my biggest issue with the kit. It is casually mentioned in the instructions you need a clear glass or plexiglass sheet to keep your transparency in place and insure a clean exposure. This is as important as any other part in silkscreening. I happen to be an art supply hoarder and had some extra plexiglass lying around, but the average consumer probably doesn’t. You NEED this to expose your screen and it isn’t explicitly mentioned on the box.-the light handle: in order to hold or hang the light, you need to adjust the handle which is pretty stuck in place. It uses an odd shaped screwdriver as well. I wish the kit included that. I almost bent the metal trying to pry it free.Spray bottle for emulsion remover: once again, something casually mentioned in the instructions but not in the box. You are supposed to spray the remover on the screen with a spray bottle. I poured it on to test it and wasted a lot of product. A little spray bottle should either be included or mentioned on the box.TLDR: the kit is a good beginner kit but just know you need materials not mentioned on the box. If you are getting this as a ready to go kit, you may be disappointed.

Gets You Knee Deep
I prefer the Speedball fabric squeegee for t-shirts but the included blade is good for clean up, maybe better for relatively hard and flat surfaces. I also used it to hang removable wall paper but that takes down your edge. This kit gets you involved. It does open up creative options but for most people it’s overkill. You can get prepped emulsion screens with better granularity that do not require that angry UV lamp or a sprayer. The lamp has a mounting bracket but the design does not allow it to cantilever or even angle down when mounted straight to a tripod. I will likely cannibalize a tripod to rig an adjustable length swing arm off the wall.
