Great for Home Office Use
The Aurora AS890C Cross-Cut Paper/Credit Card Shredder is a fantastic choice for anyone needing to securely dispose of personal documents and credit cards at home. The cross-cut feature provides peace of mind, as it shreds papers into small, confetti-like pieces, making it virtually impossible to reconstruct. It handles a decent amount of paper at once and the shredder basket is a convenient size, so you don’t have to empty it constantly. It’s surprisingly quiet compared to other shredders I’ve used, and the credit card shredding slot is a huge bonus. This shredder is a reliable and efficient tool for protecting your personal information.

Works well. Pretty fast.
June 2021. – 1 month review. After using this shredder on and off during the past 5 weeks or so, I can say that it has worked very well. And is faster than the previous shredder it replaced. I didn’t keep count of how many sheets of paper I shredded in this time. But it filled up about 5 kitchen garbage bags (16 Gal). Possibly 1000 – 2000 sheets or so.For the most part I shredded them 4 at a time. It is rated for 8, but to keep the shredder moving faster and probably to allow the motor to last longer I did it at half capacity. Staples are no problem. It is still a noisy machine. It would be nice if manufacturers could reduce the noise factor. The bucket is kind of small in my opinion. It fills up after about 50 sheets shredded or so, without starting to push down on the paper that is inside already. Emptying out the bucket so often is a bit inconvenient, but I guess it gives the machine time to rest, before you continue the shredding session. It will shred continuously longer than the description says. May 8 to 10 minutes of shredding. Then the overheat sensor kicks in and stops the machine. I let it rest for the 30 mins it recommends. And has always worked again for another session.I found that the ideal shredding position for this particular machine is to have it on a desk, as you sit at it and shred at that angle. The papers go in much better at that angle then when the shredder is on the floor and you lean down to shred, due to the design of the entry point for the papers. In any case, it’s more comfortable to shred in front of you than leaning down, for me.The auto feed sensor is only in the center of the paper feeder. So for small pieces of paper, you always have to feed them through the center. This is my 3rd or 4th shredder. One thing I have learned about these machines is that they do have a limited lifespan. Eventually they all slow down, wear and tear and then die. On average they tend to last me about 5 – 7 yrs or so, probably. And I don’t use them every day. I tend to wait for a full trash bin to be full of shred ready papers, then I do a session. The last shredder I had I did grease it as it slowed down. That helped a bit. But do not spray grease them from the top as they are sitting in their bucket! the fumes accumulate inside the bucket, and they will explode once you start shredding! Instead grease them from underneath, outside of the bucket. let the fumes dissipate. On some reviews of other shredders people say they might turn on by themselves if left plugged in to AC outlet. By habit I always unplug the machine when not in use. I think this is a safe measure, just in case. And it also prevents ‘vampire’ electricity drainage, as many electronics suck electricity even when they are ‘off’.

Good personal shredder
Shredder works good. Easy to un jam. It doesn’t feel like it over heats but after I have shredded 20-30 sheets it will stop working and I’ll give it a break for 15 to 20 min and it works fine again. Power and durability good. I would recommend this product š

Great little shredder, real workhorse!
Does exactly what it should do – shreds paper, card stock and credit cards – and does it easily. The small container below the shredder fills quickly if you’re using this on a daily basis, so just a heads up about that. To minimize the mess caused by emptying it, I lined the container with a small trash bag – it doesn’t impede the operation of the shredder at all. (The shredder head has to come in contact with a specific piece of the container to operate, so don’t use a thick bag.) I purchased shredder maintenance sheets (also called shredder cleaning sheets) to use once a month or so, to keep the blades sharp and lubricated – I recommend keeping them on hand if you’re a heavy shredder like I am.Update: 1 year later, still going strong!Recently moved in with someone who is a bit of a paper hoarder – or was, until we started shredding. Long story made short: man living alone with hectic job schedule never threw any paper away – so receipts, bills, etc – all kept for over 5 years and just piled into bags and left sitting. Over the course of several weeks, he sorted through it to be sure it was all trash, and I started shredding. I ended up with EIGHT 33-gallon trash bags full of shredded paper. This little shredder powered through it all, even after being over a year old!Tips: You have to give this thing a break now and then, and don’t overload it. It’s not a commercial shredder and can only take up to 8 sheets at a time – and I’ve found 8 sheets is often too much, so I don’t do more than 3-4 sheets at one time.Buy the Amazon Basics Shredder Lubricating/Cleaning sheets & run one of them through the shredder after you empty it 2-3 times to keep the blades sharp & running smoothly. For an inexpensive shredder, this has been a great addition to my home office, and turned out to be a real workhorse, which I wasn’t expecting. Definitely recommended.

I bought the AURORA AS890 sine some time, but I only decided to use it today. From the very first credit card I tried to shred, it immediately switched off and smoke began to rise from the machine, and the card got stuck between the blades without anything being shred.

So I bought this 2 yrs ago and I am so impressed that it is still going strong. I was cleaning out old taxes and papers the other night and shredded everything and it never over heated then or ever. Originally when buying I read some reviews on other shredders that had overheating happen. I can only put about 4 thick pages in at a time example would be insurance papers as they are thicker. File or portfolio I put in by its self but tear a piece of to fit in machine better. I have pushed its limits by trying about 6 loose leaf at a time and it will do it and slows down some but I try not to push my luck. grinds up credit cards no problem. I only paid $41 when I bought mine, I do see that regular price now is double.
